Backpacks

I'm often asked what backpack would be good for a young person just starting out in Scouts. I usually suggest that parents wait a year or two before buying a backpack for several reasons:

  • Boys grow rapidly, and it is hard to find backpacks that will fit young scouts. If you wait a year or two you'll probably find something that will fit for a longer period of time.
  • Backpacks can be expensive. I suggest waiting a year or two to be sure your boy is committed and will make good use of this investment.

Troop 99 has a collection of backpacks that we can lend to new scouts to get them through the first few years. We have a variety of sizes and styles that have been donated to us and we can fit just about any size requirement. You can even try out some of the different styles we have to see what might work best, and the Scoutmasters can give you advise on what to look for and where to shop.

See you on the trail!
